Taking a leek, know your onions

Sown in the classroom, were some leeks and onions.

Today, these were moved to the Wendy house. Purely as they were looking a little unloved. Sadly, I don’t get to talk to a lot these days. The babies are starting to lol over a bit.

These are a second sowing of leeks. Onions have never been sown before, so are an experiment. Stashed in the Wendy house, I am hoping to sow more onions. Not many have come through; which is disappointing.

Peck of purple peppers

These are purple beauty sweet peppers from the real seed company. Have been moved from the Wendy and live for the moment in the poly.

Compared to initial fruits, these are somewhat bigger.

A collection of sweet peppers and chillies harvested from the poly.

Birmingham butternut

I have one! After Gladys, the butternut that wasn’t; we have a cobnut.

This is a cobnut squash, and it is growing up rather than out. I did this purely because I didn’t want slimers eat them. I did this with Gladys too; with less success.

I counted about 8 fruits, at varying stages of development. The one above; I very nearly missed. I only went into the foliage to double check.

A lovely surprise; as this is a squash that has been largely ignored. Didn’t think anything had been pollinated.

The cobnut, is all very leafy and large. And having lots of babies.

One, I’ve never grown a cobnut. Gladys was close. Two, never had that many babies. Counted at least four. The concern here is that if any of the babies are actually fertilised. Not sure if they are, flowers; both girls and boys are open. The girl ones, only just. The boy ones have no pollen in them, as I found out when looking into one.

Hefty Jalepeno

May have botched it though, as its still not setting. My own fault; boiled over. And yes, my fingers burn!

Purple plunder: you beauty!

Finally, they have arrived.

Purple beauty sweet peppers. That whilst these aren’t big yet are beautiful.

Plunderer today with some others.

Jalapeño!

These were from real seeds and are an early jalepeno. I checked these over today to see their progress. There are quite a few on the plants. Some of have now developed the harmless black smudges. These are not a problem. What they have yet to develop is the corking cracking markings. They can bid their time, as they may get jellied.
