I am writing-fourteen

Today has been a productive and enjoyable day. Two more chapters have been written and I can see the story moving towards it’s ending. Ending for this book that is. In my mind, Dragon realm, it’s sequel, may have a few more instalments yet to conclude as a universe. Not a bad thing, as that’s future avenues for inspiration.

Dragon Realm was originally written as contribution to an anthology inspired by Birmingham. I think I chose the theme a city of thousand trades. As such, I wrote about lots of different people in Birmingham from a variety of jobs. It is short, compact, but could be the start of something,

This spring, I was really struggling with a WIP that I was thirty thousand words deep into. I was also feeling tired, burned out and perhaps needed to see , do something differently creatively. Dragon Realm was on my mind, and i decided to take a look at the book, the characters and see where The Muse took me.

Was a good move. My creative mojo came back, as did pleasure in writing and using my imagine. I’ve tried to be consistent and committed; to write regularly and write that which makes me happy. It’s very personal to me. To enjoy my writing, be immersed in it and above all, believe in it. I think I had displaced the joy with tiredness, burnout and not letting myself be free with my imagination.

I am enjoying it, I have inky fingers. Alas, I can see the story ending. It will complete as planned. That brings me some sadness. However, after yesterdays marathon planning session, there are two more projects to get into straight after the first draft. The mojo is there, one needs to keep a momentum. I’ve developed a detailed plan and have a strategy in how to break it all down into chunks to write. This will help set targets to maintain focus and motivation. Will have to make sure that i do prioritise time and actually bracket it off to write.

I am writing-Three

Have had some time to do a little writing in the last couple of days. Not reams and reams, but a couple of thousand words to get things going. Hopefully there is time to over the weekend to add to that tally. I don’t tend to give myself categorically imperative words counts. I find this unrealistic, and there can be a feeling of undue pressure as well. I would rather enjoy writing, retain some motivation and also go with a flow.

My current project is an expansion of corner of my writing paracosm. You may note that I have distinct Universes. I have the Fragments Universe, The Beyond Kangana Universe and then there’s the Devan Coultrie Universe. There is a picture at the top of the post of that collection as it is for the time being.

The current writing project is technically a sequel. Development and a bit more detail of the first book. I don’t want to give too much away just yet; I would rather have more concrete information before I do that. I also feel rather protective of it. To work on it, get it done and dusted before any public exposure. What I can tell you, that it is indeed set in Birmingham, once again.

Whilst I am trying to get back into writing, I am also keeping an eye on film making. There is a script, a plan and ongoing discussions with producer Chris. We are currently looking for actors with this project as detailed below.

Pink sari is a short story from Behind The Scenes and fresh off the back of the rip roaring success that was Devan Coultrie, here we go again!

We are looking for actors to participate in Unpaid/Volunteer Opportunity

Great for portfolio development/gaining experience

Have you seen the dragons?

Have you met the dragons of Birmingham?

A collection of stories that document what might happen if Birmingham played home to dragons. Everyday people find themselves trusted with eggs that help keep the skies of Birmingham safe. There are familiar landmarks, familiar settings that the winged creatures find being their home.

The dragons don’t just stay in this book. They also appear in other parts of my writing universe. If you take a look, you may find them in Chandni rises.

Dragon Realm was a really fun book to write. I was encouraged to write something different, and why not dragons? Why shouldn’t dragons also land in Birmingham. I see no reason why Birmingham should miss out on such fantasy.

The whole book universe is interconnected, so see if you spot all the links!

A sequel to the Battle of Gravelly Hill Interchange.

As the battle concludes, a new dawn breaks over Birmingham. The city has changed. The city walls vibrate with what happened and what is to come.

As Lord of the Manor of Birmingham, Gorbind rode into battle, with Chandni and Armaan. Padmi had waved them off, with nothing but hope to hang onto. From having survived zombies, to hatching dragons and a dash of vampires.

Delia Entwhistle has earned her stripes and The Lady Aurelia arrives to take her place alongside the Lord of the Manor of Birmingham. Plus, there is Akaash. As he comes to grips with his place in this tale of a family pulling together in the face of adversity.

A story of change as Chandni, Armaan and Padmi do their best to keep each other standing whilst managing the new threats to the City of Birmingham.

Secrets will come out into the open as Chandni Rises.

7. Books the Breakdown: Battle of Gravelly Hill Interchange

A bit like dragon realm, what happens if Zombies come to Birmingham,

Oh, and what’s Gorbind doing with himself.

This Gorbind Phalla Novellete was originally part of Behind the Scenes.

However, it felt to special, to nice to be left there.

Published as book in it’s own right, we see Gorbind, Padmi and other sights of Birmingham cope with a pandemic

Yes, yes; we’ve sorta seen what feels like.

This is an apocalypse in Birmingham. Gorbind Phalla is the de factor Lord of the Manor. This is not Birmingham as we know it.

And what’s Spaghetti Junction got to do with it?

Well, have a look inside.

6.Books the Breakdown: Dragon Realm

Whilst Tolkien was inspired by Sarehole Mill, I’m at a loss to identify other pieces of fantasy, apocalypse or such drama to be set in the West Midlands.

I mean, why do aliens, zombies and creatures otherwise unspecified go to other geographic locations?

Why shouldn’t Birmingham not be a backdrop?

Please don’t get me wrong. I love Birmingham; Brummie Born and Bred. I am not tempting fate, being disparaging. Not in the least.

Working with Author city for the book event anthology, I picked the theme of a city of a thousand trades.

And chose to marry that with Dragons.

Here we have ten short stories that see Birmingham become home to some rather interesting creatures.
