Books for the Festive Season: Take your pick!

You can find links to all of these on the side bar, or at www.horticulturalhobbit.com/books.

A mixed bag for you to begin with.

The Devan Coultrie Saga, with it’s three parts, from the Peace Novella Series. He leaves Rugby, a broke-hearted man, to land in Peace Montana. His past catches up with, and Devan’s life changes in interesting ways.

Gorbind and Padmi have anything but a simple, straight-forward romance. Their family are involved for one.

Fragments, gave us a whole universe! But it started with six interlinked stories about loss. See how Gorbind and Koby came to be.

Behind The Scenes has characters as you’ve never seen them before. As well short stories inspired by Birmingham. Also contains the Battle of Gravelly Hill, as a bonus.

Winter is a good time to consider your garden. What might you grow, what could you then cook in your kitchen? How to grow things, how to make chutneys, jams and jellies; learn from my mistakes and see how easy it is to grow your own fruit and veg.

This year has been a busy year for the books and I. As well as the assortment of stops on the Book Odyssey-from Telford to Montana-there have been three releases since last Christmas.

A complicated Romance with Koby Anand to pull at your heart strings.

Does Gorbind Phalla survive the Battle of Gravelly Hill Interchange and all the zombies that land in Birmingham.

And what might happen, if Dragons land in the second city?

6.Books the Breakdown: Dragon Realm

Whilst Tolkien was inspired by Sarehole Mill, I’m at a loss to identify other pieces of fantasy, apocalypse or such drama to be set in the West Midlands.

I mean, why do aliens, zombies and creatures otherwise unspecified go to other geographic locations?

Why shouldn’t Birmingham not be a backdrop?

Please don’t get me wrong. I love Birmingham; Brummie Born and Bred. I am not tempting fate, being disparaging. Not in the least.

Working with Author city for the book event anthology, I picked the theme of a city of a thousand trades.

And chose to marry that with Dragons.

Here we have ten short stories that see Birmingham become home to some rather interesting creatures.

5.Books the Breakdown: Behind the Scenes

Writing assorted characters is rather fun, to be honest.

Imagine though, what they might get up to when I’m not trying to write them.

Behind the scenes contains three different things.

First, an insight into the lives of the characters that I write, beyond my ink pens and my imagination.

Second, there are short stories inspired by the City of Birmingham. We have some historical romance with Lady Eleanor. A counsellor-there’s a surprise-romance in Digbeth. There’s even a space ship!!!

And what might happen, if Hades Lord of the Underworld came to The Women’s Hospital.

Second, GORBIND!!! Gorbind and zombies. But hold on. I’ll tell you about that in abit.

This was a book-of a few- that I wrote as the world started to get to grips with global pandemic. As such, it’s got a little bit of everything in there,

Summer: the season to read

Love, life, laughter

and all that is in between.

The days have become longer, the sun is shining-mostly!- and there is a chance for some downtime. Downtime makes for a cracking opportunity to catch up on reading. From the graphics above, you can see that there is something of a diverse range on offer. There are the two gardening books, one romance novella, a two novels and series of short stories.

With June and July, the growing season becomes apace. If you have more courgettes than you know what to do with, or really want to know about Aloo gobi-that’s spuds and cauliflower, then those are for you.

Retreating to Peace and Postcards from Peace are my contributions to the Peace Novella Series. A stable of different authors awaits if you fancy having a look at the rest of the series. With RTP, Devan Coultrie arrives in Montana with something of a broken heart. There is follow up in Postcards as we get another look into his life.

Fragments is a great big of six inter-related stories as it considers what happens when we lose the people- and animals-that shape our worlds. Kangana sees Gorbind-he appears in Fragments-have a no straight forward romance. There are also snatches of Birmingham, with Lucifer from the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery making an appearance.

Picking up where Retreating To Peace left off, Postcards from Peace sees Devan Coultrie settle further into town.

We get to see his family, a few more of  his friends about town and also the perils and pitfalls of his relationship with Aditi Rao.

Devan Coultrie is settling into Peace.  Life as he knows it, is  becoming really quite interesting.

*****

Devan Coultrie is unwell.

Banshees.

Devan was being chased by a horde of wild-haired, completely psychotic, marauding banshees. They wanted him.

Every inch of him.

Resistance was futile, he was fair game. The Banshees were out to get him.

Waking with a jolt, Devan cursed loudly as both his elbows hit the curved sides of a very cold bath. He looked down toward his feet to see his ever-present Oxblood Dr. Marten’s thump against metal.

He was in the bath.

How the hell did he end up in the bath? Devan tightly closed his eyes to rack his brains. The last few days were incredibly blurry around the edges.

Devan Coultrie was at a loss. His world had been shaken, his heart fractured and emptied by death. In search of a way to heal and shake of the damage, Devan sticks a pin a map with the intention of going wherever it lands. Leaving the shores of the United Kingdom, he ends up Stateside, deep in the heart of Montana. With all of his worldly possessions, Devan drives into Peace and onto a plot to land to start life over.

Like him, the farm and its acreage is downbeat, derelict and defeated. When Aditi Rao arrives in Peace, Devan’s plans for himself and his home are disrupted. He has history with Aditi and she’d quite like to write another chapter. Can he show Aditi that his retreat to Peace is more than just a plot of land and on a different continent? Can he find a way to share his home, his heart and a new beginning?
