Experimenting with the jam pan again. This time it’s apple and plum. With additions of ginger and black cardomom. I did think at one stage that it was wasn’t very pink. So i did add some blackberries.
Everything was piled into the pan, and stewed. The apples took a lot mashing actually, I didn’t anticipate that.
I have used equal quantities of fruit and sugar to keep a balance. With the juice of half a Lemon per pound. I simply cannot get the stuff to reach setting point, but it does in the jar.
Please do not make this if you are under age and without parental supervision. My mother was present through out.
The plan is to steep them both in vodka or another dark liqueur. Which ever is cheapest. The blackberries contain sugar and vanilla essence. The rhubarb has cloves, cassia bark as I had no cinnamon.
Popping into a cold dark place for occasional inversion.
My thanks to @bobleponge216 and @haywayne and @notjustjams for their advice.
Ma spent some time on the plot and has come home with bundles of chard and spinach. Reckons she fancies doke palak paneer for dinner. Paneer being the cubed Indian cheese.
A bit delayed perhaps, but not surprising as they were sunk late. The gladioli are coming through. Some of them are normal sized, others are meant to be giant ones. Lots of brightly coloured ones should follow, hopefully.
There is one bright yellow floo’er, and one tiny one with a fruit behind it. Since one has opened and be other is yet to do so; I can’t really be hopeful about the second one setting fruit. It might need to be tickled but there may not be anything to tickle it withZ
This is this years ghost rider pumpkin. Amongst the dinner plate sized leaves are nestled two small marble sized fruits. Only spotted those yesterday, so we shall see how much success we have with this plant. So far I have only ever got one fruit from a plant.
Whilst I am not intending to plot world domination and flog stuff, I do want to establish a brand. An identity if you like. To be associated with all the goodies that get made and shared from the allotment.
Road tested it yesterday, with Rosemary being given to a loving home.
Mama woke me this morning asking it net. She had harvested two trough fulls of rosemary from the garden. She does rather like to collect rosemary bushes. We have three in Dad’s garden that she has adopted.
Her plan is to dry the leaves and then use them. Leg o’lamb anyone?
Whilst all the other chillies and aubs are having trouble growing, the habaneros are so far so okay. The Terry’s-the orange ones-are nicely leafy. Thornton the chocolate one has a little sun scorch so we shall keep an eye on that one too.
